Applications

Definition of an application: An application is another word for a program running on the computer. Whether or not it is a good application depends on how well it performs the tasks it is designed to do and how easy it is for the user to use. That involves the user interface- the way the user tells the software what to do and how the computer displays information and options to the user.

Wikis

Wikis are made so people can share information and and inform others of it. They can be used to discuss peoples' passions, organise camping trips etc.

Wikis can be edited by everyone, not just one person.

Hardware

Why a computer needs Hardware, and its difference between Software
Computers need Hardware beacause it is the part of the computer system that help to make it up. Hardware is the part of those systems that you can touch, like disks and keyboards, whereas Software is a part of the computer which is untouchable, like ideas and symbols.

Definition of Hardware from:
http://searchcio-midmarket.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid183_gci212228,00.html
"In information technology, hardware is the physical aspect of computers, telecommunications, and other devices. The term arose as a way to distinguish the 'box' and the electronic circuitry and components of a computer from the program you put in it to make it do things. The program came to be known as the software."

An example of Input, Output, Processing and Storage
Input - A person types data into a database system by means of a keyboard
Output - The keystrokes being entered are immediately shown on the typist’s monitor so she can see what is being entered.
Processing - The keystrokes being entered by the typist is converted into ASCII format that the computer can understand.
Storage - The raw data gathered during the tests may be kept in storage in case a more clever way of processing the data comes up in the future.

Network Hardware
Networking hardware typically refers to equipment facilitating the use of a computer network. Typically, this includes routers, switches, hubs etc.

What is "Web 2.0?"

I wouldn't have a clue as to what Web 2.0 is, but I'll try to answer these questions using info on the net.

1. List all the ways you can think of that you can publish stuff on the Internet.
You could use a blog, bebo, whatever and write stuff in that. You could also make a web page.
2. Find a definition of Web 2 that makes sense to you and say where it came from.
The term "Web 2.0" refers to a perceived second generation of web development and design, that aims to facilitate communication, secure information sharing, interoperability, and collaboration on the World Wide Web. Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities, hosted services, and applications; such as social-networking sites, video-sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0
3. Give some examples of Web 2, and explain the purpose of each one.
Social-networking sites, so people can talk with one another. Video-sharing sites, so people can show others the movies that they make.
4. Who writes wikipedia? Do you think you can trust it? Why/why not?
The Public write Wikipedia. I don't think we can totally trust it, but I'm sure the people who write in it are sure of their answers, so I use it anyway.
5. What is a wiki?
Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser.
http://wiki.org/wiki.cgi?WhatIsWiki
6. How are blogs and wikis the same? How are they different?
Wikis give you information, while Blogs give you voice, but they are both very similiar in that they have restrictions as to what you can do with them. You cannot edit them to do different things, for example, if I wanted to have moving digital cats on my profile I couldn't because Wiki and Blogs don't do that.
7. What is Flicker useful for?
Flicker is useful for image editing. It can customise the image that you want to be changed.

Software

Defining Software

The distinction between software and hardware is sometimes confusing because they are so integrally linked. Clearly, when you purchase a program, you are buying software. But to buy the software, you need to buy the disk(hardware) on which the software is recorded.

Software is often divided into two categories:
Systems Software: Includes the operating system and all the utilities that enable the computer to function.
Applications Software : Includes programs that do real work for users. For example, word processors, spreadsheets, and database management systems fall under the category of applications software.
http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/S/software.html

From what the information above tells me, Software is a disk or a programme which you have to upload onto computers to have access to. Obviously, Software will only work on a computer.

Shama

This is a Shama. We made them in Health and the computers wouldn't save them so I put them on the blogger thing. My Shama is now safe, unlike my other Shama that I made before this one. It was cooler, but the servers lost it somewhere in the computer generated world, so now it's gone. Forever. S:

Money

I have officially made a TradeMe account. Made it Tuesday night. I'm gonna sell ALOT of stuff in our garage that's not getting used like our basically new rabbit cage and all our retro-ish paintings. I get 20% of the profit!!

I'm doing this so I can save up for a road bike. I really, really want one. My mum has one but she won't let me use it, because she's too tall and the seat's too high. She says I can't keep moving the seat up and down, but that's okay, I want my own anyway.

My account balance: $54.20 - with a couple of the old NZ coins and a worn down penny. It's tatty that I can barely read it. Maybe it's rare? I doubt it. I could try to sell it to coin collectors though. I think I will. Which reminds me, in my computer class, we are doing a thing about collections. Like, we have to talk about all the things we collect. I don't think I collect anything though. I have a lot of pets, but I think it's rude to say they are mine, when they are their own selves. They are simply not, and can never be possessions.

Now that I'm talking about my pets I may as well list them. Here they are:
  • Roxy is a black and white Cavalier King Charles Spaniel / Miniature Poodle.
  • Olive is a black Miniature Poodle.
  • Coco is a black and white, very long haired cat. 1/4 Persian.
  • Sydney and Flossy are two Guinea Pigs. They are white and brown. Syd has red eyes.
  • Gogs is a Tree Frog. Gold-brown in colour.
  • Gertrude and Bertha are goldfish. Gertrude's black, Bertha's gold.
  • Merven is a sucker fish, he lives in a tank full of un-named tropical fish.

The Time is Wrong!

Okay, it's pretty lame to point out that the time is wrong, but I'm bored, so I will.

At the moment, it is 9:30. I recently sent a blog and it said it was sent at 12:04. Oh well, how many hours fast is that? Three, I think. This blog thing must be programmed to Australian time, not New Zealand time, even though NZ is way cooler.

The Point of Blogging..

The teacher asked us to write something about the point of blogging... So that's what I'm doing now. It seems that this blog won't be much to look at, considering all these dull posts. Oh well! I'll try to make this as exciting as possible :)

The Point of blogging...

People have blogs so they can post their news on the internet, hoping that other people will come along and read it. Honestly, what's the point behind reading all that stuff? But that's not the point I'm making here. :)

So, the point of blogging... People can blog for fun and entertainment; to share their relatively boring lives with the world and hope that someone will come along and find it interesting. They could blog to share their gossip with everyone else. I dunno, I'm not those people, so I don't know why they have blogs. I know why I have my blog. For school. Maybe that's another reason for others having blogs. But anyway, the point of blogging is to get your news out there!

Internet Safety

This has been made for school. Enjoy (if you can).

Rules for Internet Safety:
- Do not give out personal info.
- Only trust someone you know is real.
- Avoid downloading viruses.

That's all I can think of at the moment. (:
